ARO Event : The Environmental Limits on Returning to Economic Growth

On Wednesday 27th January 2010, ARO hosted its second network event at the Radisson Blu  in Birmingham. The one-day event focused on the environmental limits on returning to economic growth. It was open to all ARO members as well as those working with data and intelligence at the local, regional and national level.

The key note speakers were:

Dr Eva Neitzert

who joined NEF in 2008 and now heads up the Business, Finance and Economics (BFE) programme. This programme is concerned with achieving systemic change to align the interests of business and finance with those of society - in short, with incentivising the production of social and environmental 'goods' rather than 'bads'. Eva's own interest is particularly around externalities. Originally from New Zealand, Eva holds a PhD from the LSE and studied for Masters and undergraduate degrees at the University of Washington and University of Auckland.

Stephen Hall

is a Government Statistician at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.  He has been responsible for the UK's sustainable development indicators programme since 2001.  As chairman of the Government's Wellbeing Indicators Group, Stephen has led work on developing measures of wellbeing since 2007.  He has been strongly involved in a number of international initiatives on indicators for Eurostat, OECD, UN-ECE, and the UN.
