Profile of the Financial Services Sector in the South East
This report includes information on the composition of the financial services sector in the South East; recent and projected future trends in employment and business numbers in the sector; the characteristics of the workforce; and recruitment and training. It has been produced to support the business planning for the new National Skills Academy for Financial Services in the South East. The key findings include:
- The South East has the second largest share of UK financial services employment of any region behind London.
- The financial services sector accounts for 7.6% of regional Gross Value Added (GVA) - contributing £12.3 billion to the regional economy.
- 95% of financial services businesses in the South East have fewer than 50 employees and 78% have few than 10 staff. However, more than 40% of all employees in financial services work in firms with more than 200 staff.
