Environment data via Regional Trends On-line includes information about water quality, pollution, land use, waste and recycling in different areas of the United Kingdom.

Environmental Statistics  are available online from the DEFRA (Department for the Environment , Food and Rural Affairs) under various themes which are continually being updated to provide summary statistics on the environment in the United Kingdom. .


Environment in your pocket is a distillation of the above data in an easy format.  A version was produced annually as an extract of the full report.

How do you define sustainability? Helpful guidance can be found on the DEFRA website, together with a number of indicators. Sustainable Development Indicators in your Pocket are a group of 68 indicators covering a wide range of topics developed to support the UK Government Sustainable Development Strategy.


A range of Physical Environment indicators are available on the Neighbourhood Statistics website (NeSS).

Marine and Coastal Access Bill received Royal Assent on 9 November 2009, given the considerable coastine in the South East this bill could have an impact in several areas.

Rural affairs is currently of high importance and DEFRA champions the equitable treatment of rural areas and communities in national, regional and local public policies and programmes. Many data are presented with Urban and Rural dimension identified. 

The Rural South East: An evidence base is a report which provides important data on topics such as demographics, economics, exclusion, agriculture, biodiversity and landscape.  Each one is analysed in a rural context, presenting a greater understanding of the rural South East.  In addition, the report focuses in on each county within the region, providing an overview of the key issues in each.
