Life Expectancy at Birth, 2004-2006
This dataset provides a three-year average of life expectancy at birth figures. It is an estimate of the average number of years a new born baby would live if he or she experienced the particular area's age specific mortality rates for that three-year period throughout his or her life. The figure reflects mortality amongst those living in the area, rather than mortality of those born in each area. Figures are provided for males and females separately.
This update covers the period 2004-2006, and means that there are now four time periods of this dataset available on the Neighbourhood Statistics website. The dataset is available down to local authority level for areas within England and Wales and has been supplied by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The data are classified as National Statistics.
This release includes revisions to earlier years' data to incorporate changes to population estimates used in the calculation of these datasets. For more information see the revision note provided by ONS.
