Agriculture in the English Regions 2007
‘Agriculture in the United Kingdom 2007’, a statistical compendium that provides information on the economic condition of the agricultural industry, was published on 27th March 2008. This statistical notice provided the key statistics on agriculture at regional level in England. It contains information for Government Office regions, including charts showing comparisons between regions for a number of major agricultural statistics, separate tables for each region showing the main aspects of the industry, a production and income account for each region, and a note explaining the methodology used in constructing regional accounts.
In brief, data for England are compiled within the production and income account for the United Kingdom and the regional figures are derived from these and regional data on crop areas, livestock counts and labour collected in the June survey of agricultural and horticultural holdings. It is assumed that across regions, revenue and costs are proportional to crop areas, livestock counts and labour.
These data are provisional and subject to statistical error.
There have been some revisions to improve previous statistics. These include more use of annual June survey data resulting in better matching of outputs in the account to areas and livestock counts in the survey; inputs being allocated using estimates of the cost of each type of input for each output; and labour being allocated on the basis of regional labour statistics from the annual June survey.
