Labour Market Statistics, February 2009: South East
Monthly report publishing the latest national figures for a wide range of labour market indicators from different sources, including employment, unemployment and inactivity from the Labour Force Survey, the claimant count measure from JobCentre Plus, administrative data and earnings data from the Monthly Wages and Salaries Survey.
This month sees the publication of those regional datasets that are only updated quarterly, in the regional First Releases, including Labour Force Survey data for the South East.
Data for the three months to December 2008 show the seasonally adjusted employment rate at 78.7 per cent, down 0.3 percentage points on a year earlier. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.9 per cent, up 0.4 percentage points on a year earlier.
The seasonally adjusted claimant count rate in January 2009 was 2.6 per cent, up 0.2 percentage points from December 2008, and up 1.1 percentage points since January 2008. The seasonally adjusted number of claimants in January 2009 was 115,400, up 10,200 on December 2008, and up 50,500 since January 2008.
