Statistics in the regions

One of the key recommendations of the Allsopp Review published in 2004, was the creation of a ‘Regional Statistical Presence’ for the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Since April 2007 this has been implemented in each of the nine English regions with two new posts being established.

In the South East I would like to introduce myself, Peggy Causer, and my colleague Neil Park. We are based in Guildford, located with the South East of England Information Network (SEE-iN).

We are here to assist you to better understand the statistical picture of your area; provide guidance on official data available; work with local partners to improve the quality of business information and to act as a focus for intelligence gathering and feedback between ONS and their customers.

In order to understand more about our region, we are trying to meet with as many different users and suppliers of information as possible, participate in intelligence or research groups and collect information. If you would like meet or have a point of view to share, please do get in touch.

I cannot guarantee we will know the answers to all your questions, but we might know a person who does. We can advise and explore options with you, and relay issues back to appropriate colleagues in the Government Statistical Service.
