South East England Partnership Board
The Partnership Board was established in April 2009 when it replaced the South East England Regional Assembly as the region’s statutory planning body. It is responsible for producing a 20-year strategy for the region that covers transport, housing, the economy, the environment and planning matters. The new regional strategy will combine the South East Plan and Regional Economic Strategy into a single document.
Board members
- Eight councillors from South East England Councils (SEEC)
- Four members of the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) board
Structure
The Partnership Board meets twice a year in public and reaches decisions by consensus. It works closely with delivery agencies (such as the Highways Agency), stakeholder groups, the Regional Housing and Regeneration Board, Regional Transport Board and Regional Economic Development and Skills Board. It is supported by a Strategy Board and a small team of staff in Guildford, Surrey.

Regional Economic Strategy 2006-2016
The Framework within which every Regional Development Agency (RDA) works is the Regional Economic Strategy (RES). This Strategy is produced every three to four years in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders and defines the region's priorities and targets for the work of all the partners in its delivery – public, private and voluntary. The first Annual Monitoring Report was published in October 2007.The original Evidence Base paper underpinning the latest Regional Economic Strategy is designed to identify from the available evidence the most pressing challenges facing the South East across a number of key economic themes.
The accompanying 'Technical Paper 1: Intervention Framework' may also be of interest: this outlines the major areas where inefficiencies resulting from market failures lead to less than optimal outcomes for economic agents or society as a whole and where there is a need for public sector intervention.
The Regional Economic Strategy itself and all associated publications can be found here.
South East Plan
The South East Plan is a new type of planning document. It sets out a vision for the future of the South East region to 2026, outlining how we need to respond to challenges facing the region such as housing, the economy, transport and protecting the environment.
The South East England Regional Assembly, now the South East England
Partnership Board, was tasked by the Deputy Prime Minister to produce
the South East Plan to replace the pre-existing planning guidance - Regional
Planning Guidance 9 (RPG9). Government
published the final South East Plan on 6 May 2009.
The South East Plan itself and related information may be accessed here.
